The Internet of Things (IoT) is a well-established term to describe the vast collection of devices, sensors, appliances and machines that are able to connect to the internet or a private network. These can be consumer oriented, ranging from refrigerators to temperature sensors. However, the highest IoT adoption rate is expected in the industrial sector. Here, machines, robots, autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs), storage units, drones, air conditioning and other mechanical systems will all be connected. On each of these cameras, sensors, actuators and will all be sending or receiving data – the aim being to optimize industrial process, create a “production virtual twin” and provide constant monitoring.
